Ferrari Collision Repair
Ferrari Approved Body Center Orlando. Factory-trained specialists, authentic parts, Maranello-quality restoration.
The structure under the body is a bonded aluminium spaceframe, the panel gaps are a published dimension, and the red is usually several layers deep. Each of those changes the repair, and the sections below explain how.
Almost everything expensive about repairing a Ferrari is decided before anyone writes an estimate. The structure under the body is a bonded and riveted aluminium spaceframe rather than a stamped steel shell, the gaps between the panels are a published dimension rather than a matter of taste, and the red is usually not one colour but several laid over one another. What follows is how those three facts change the work.
The chassis is a bonded aluminium spaceframe, not a stamped shell
Extrusions and castings do not fail the same way
A modern Ferrari chassis is a frame of aluminium extrusions joined to cast aluminium nodes, with the body panels hung off it. Within the limits the manufacturer publishes, an extruded section can sometimes be drawn back into position. A casting is comparatively brittle: it either survived the impact or it did not, and straightening one is how a repairable car becomes a compromised one. The first real decision after a front or rear hit is which of the two took the load.
The joints are the structure
That frame is held together by structural adhesive and mechanical fasteners as much as by welding, and the manufacturer specifies which method belongs at which joint. Heat in the wrong place does two things at once. It anneals the aluminium, permanently softening metal that was heat treated for strength, and it cooks the adhesive in the bond line beside it. A repair plan on one of these cars therefore reads as a list of joints rather than a list of panels.
Where the load stopped matters more than what is visibly bent
A moderate front impact on a 458, 488 or F8 is meant to be absorbed by a bolt-on crash structure and the subframe behind it before anything reaches the spaceframe. When that happens, the design worked. The point of measuring the car is to prove where the energy stopped, not to confirm the damage you can already see from the driveway.
Carbon on a Ferrari is sometimes structural and usually is not
A 458, 488 or F8 does not have a carbon tub
Their chassis is aluminium. Carbon on those cars turns up as body and aero components, cabin trim, and options such as a carbon bonnet, mirror housings or rear diffuser. Damage to any of those is a parts decision, not a structural one. Owners frequently arrive braced for a carbon monocoque conversation about a car that has never had a carbon monocoque.
The LaFerrari class is a different vehicle underneath
Ferrari built its limited-run halo cars around a carbon fibre monocoque, the F50 and Enzo before LaFerrari and the Icona cars after. An impact that reaches that structure is not a body repair, it is an assessment. The honest position is that the range of damage a carbon tub can carry and still be returned to service is far narrower than the range a metal shell can, and any shop that tells you otherwise before it has looked at the car is guessing.
Cosmetic carbon has to be read, not glanced at
Clear-coated carbon reports damage differently from painted metal. A starred or cracked clearcoat over an intact laminate looks alarming and is largely a refinish problem. A laminate that has been compressed and sprung back can present as a light scuff while it has delaminated beneath the surface. Those two are separated by inspecting the part off the car, not by looking at photographs of it.
How carbon damage is assessedPanel gaps on these cars are measured, not eyeballed
The gap is a number, and it is written down
Ferrari publishes a target dimension and a tolerance for the gap and the flushness at every aperture on the car. A gap that looks right on something this low and this wide is regularly out of specification, because the eye is reading the crown of the panel rather than the shut line. Gauges settle it and opinions do not.
A door that shuts is not evidence the shell is straight
Apertures are adjustable and a latch will pull a door home even when the structure behind it has moved. What actually shows a shell to be square is a three-dimensional comparison of the car against factory control points, upper and lower, taken as a set rather than one at a time. That comparison is the difference between knowing the car is straight and hoping it is.
Structural measurement and frame repairMeasure first, because the estimate depends on it
If the structure is only measured at the end, a structural problem surfaces at the worst possible moment, with the car painted and half assembled. Measuring at teardown is what makes the parts list correct the first time and what makes a supplement defensible when someone asks why an operation is on the sheet.
Ferrari red is not one colour and does not repair like one
Multi-stage reds land wherever the film build lands
A multi-layer red takes its final appearance from a tinted coat over a ground coat, so the colour is a function of how much material went on rather than of the formula alone. Two panels mixed from the same code and sprayed to different film thicknesses will not match. That is the whole reason a spray-out card exists: the target is established with the same gun, the same hand and the same number of passes the car is going to get, then held against the panel in daylight before anything is sprayed on the vehicle.
Solid red is not the easy one
Red pigments are the family that suffers most under ultraviolet, and Central Florida delivers more of it than most places these cars live. A car that has spent ten Orlando summers outdoors no longer wears the colour it left the factory with. Mixing to the paint code gives you the original, which is precisely the colour the rest of the car has stopped being.
Blending into the next panel is usually the correct call
On a repaired door or quarter, the way a repair disappears is by carrying colour into the adjacent panels so the transition happens in the middle of a surface, where the light is even. Stopping at the shut line puts the hardest comparison in the world, two versions of the same colour meeting in a straight dark line under direct sun, exactly where the eye goes first.
How paint is matched and verifiedAfter the metalwork, the car has to be told what happened
The chassis systems work from a baseline you can move
The electronic differential, the traction system, side slip control and the adaptive dampers all act on steering angle, yaw and wheel speed. Replace a suspension component or change the alignment and those references shift underneath the software. The car will not complain. It will simply keep working from a baseline that is slightly wrong, which shows up as behaviour the owner describes as the car feeling off rather than as a fault code.
Sensors get aimed, not merely refitted
On the models that carry forward-facing radar and camera assistance, a bumper or a windscreen is a calibration job as well as a panel job. A radar sitting a fraction of a degree off is looking at the next lane by the time the distance matters, and it will usually not set a fault to tell anyone. This is the operation most often missing from an estimate written off photographs.
Scan before the teardown and again at the end
A fault recorded at the moment of impact can be wiped by disconnecting the battery, which happens on day one of most structural jobs. A pre-repair scan captures what the car knew about the collision before that evidence is gone, and the post-repair scan is what proves the car left in the state the documentation claims.
Parts strategy on a car built in small numbers
There is effectively no aftermarket, and that simplifies one decision
Nobody stamps a pattern quarter panel for a 488. On a car built in these numbers the sourcing conversation is about genuine parts, availability and sequence rather than about which grade of part to fit, which removes an argument that dominates estimates on ordinary vehicles.
A used panel arrives with a history
Where a good used or factory-refinished part is the sensible route, it is measured and inspected before it is accepted rather than after it has been hung on the car. A second-hand panel that was itself repaired badly costs more to discover late than it ever saved.

A paint code identifies the formula the car was built with. On a car that has spent years outdoors in this climate it does not identify the colour the car is now, which is why the target is confirmed on a sprayed card against the actual panel before the gun goes anywhere near the vehicle.

- →Tailor Made verification
- →Ceramic coating option

Film thickness is on that list for a reason. On a multi-stage red the reading is not a quality checkbox, it is part of the colour itself, and it is also how a panel that has been refinished before gets found before it causes a mismatch.
SF90 & 296 Hybrid Collision Specialist
Certified for Ferrari hybrid collision repair including high-voltage systems
On a hybrid the sequence changes before any panel comes off. The high-voltage system is isolated and given time to discharge, and the battery and its enclosure are inspected for impact before the structural plan is written, because damage in that area rewrites the plan rather than adding a line to it.

Can you match historic Ferrari colors?
Yes, we have formulas for classic Ferrari colors from all eras, including vintage shades and limited edition finishes.
Is my 488 or F8 a carbon fibre car?
Structurally, no. The chassis on the 458, 488 and F8 generation is an aluminium spaceframe. Carbon on those cars is body, aero and trim: a bonnet, a diffuser, mirror caps, cabin panels. Ferrari reserved the carbon monocoque for the limited-run cars such as the F50, Enzo and LaFerrari. It changes what a repair plan looks like, because damage to a carbon body part is a component decision while damage to an aluminium spaceframe is a structural one.
Why does the shop want to repaint the panel next to the damaged one?
Because a multi-stage red takes its final appearance from film thickness as well as from the formula, so the safest place to land a colour transition is in the middle of a panel where the light is even, not at a shut line where two versions of the same red meet in a straight dark edge under direct sun. Blending into the adjacent panel is what makes the repair invisible rather than merely close.
The car drives fine. Does it still need measuring?
Yes, and driving fine is exactly why. Door and bonnet apertures are adjustable and a latch will pull a panel home even when the structure behind it has moved, so fit and feel are poor evidence. A three-dimensional comparison against the factory control points is what actually shows whether the shell is square, and it is done at teardown so the parts list is right the first time.
What has to happen to the electronics after a collision repair?
The differential, traction and stability systems and the adaptive dampers all work from steering angle, yaw and wheel speed references, and suspension or alignment work moves those references. On the models with forward radar and camera assistance, a bumper or windscreen also has to be aimed rather than just refitted, because a sensor a fraction of a degree out points at the wrong lane at distance and usually sets no fault. The car is scanned before teardown and again at completion.
