Does it replace the estimator?

No. It produces a first draft of the lines while the car is still in front of you. An estimator reads it against the vehicle, corrects what is wrong, and prints it. The judgment stays with the person at the car.

We are not publishing an accuracy number yet. The only figure worth printing is how close a draft lands to the repair order that finally gets written, and that is still being measured against completed orders. Until it is solid enough to publish, we are not claiming one.

What does the shop have to install?

Nothing on the shop computers and no server. It runs in the browser on the phone an estimator already carries, iPhone or Android, and can be added to the home screen so it opens from an icon.

What if the VIN plate cannot be read?

The vehicle gets typed in instead. A scratched, painted over or buried VIN plate never stops the walk-around.

Eight carriers, and they agree with each other

Refinish

49 documents. Six of the eight carriers land between 2.16× and 2.23×, a spread of seven hundredths. Independent carriers arriving at the same number is the hard part to fake.

Body

35 documents. Wider than refinish because body is negotiated per job where refinish is rate-carded, so the top of the range is real, not noise.

Body, refinish and mechanical together against the market baseline drawn from the whole corpus.

Write a claim at your own posted rates and this is the gap between what you billed and what the carrier will allow. Drawn from over 300 carrier estimate documents, 5,164 line items across eleven insurers, not from a published rate sheet.

Ranges, not point estimates, because the measurement is still being compiled. Mechanical is deliberately left out of the per-category figures: after removing Corsa’s own rates the remainder reads like dealer sublet rather than a carrier rate, and only eight documents produced a usable figure.
